Suspect arrested in Elim for dispensing medication without a licence

The arrest followed a raid by the Hawks at an illegal medication outlet.

LIMPOPO – The Hawks’ serious commercial crime unit arrested the 27-year-old suspect on Wednesday, 13 December at an illegal medication outlet in Elim.

Provincial Hawks spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke says the suspect was arrested for dispensing medication without the required licence.

“The disruptive operation was conducted in conjunction with inspectors from the Department of Health and law enforcement,” he said.

Assorted medication which was seized, included ointments, creams and tablets were valued at approximately R120 000.

“The suspect will appear before the Hlanganani Magistrate Court today, to face charges relating to contravening Sec 22A of Medicines Act 101 of 1965, as amended and control of medicines and scheduled substance, medical devices,” Maluleke concluded.
