One woman shot during another stockvel robbery in Bolobedu

The injured woman was taken to hospital with gun shot wounds throughout her body

LIMPOPO – The Provincial Commissioner Lt General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned, what he says, is the continuous ignorance by Stockvel Social Clubs and other money collecting structures, for continuing to distribute their collected money in cash instead of utilizing the transactional system or the EFTs.

This condemnation follows the two separate incidents in the Tzaneen and Burgersfort Clusters where large amount of cash was stolen.

According to police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, a group of 45 women gathered in the Seaphole village, Bolobedu, just outside Tzaneen on Sunday afternoon, for a stockvel meeting.

“During this meeting, two armed suspects broke into the locked premises, demanded money and began shooting randomly, injuring one of the women. The suspects fled the scene after robbing the women of a large amount of money,” he explained.

Meanwhile in Mecklenburg, outside Burgersfort, the police are still searching for a group of armed suspects for a house robbery which also occurred on Sunday, 10 December.

“It is alleged the victim was sleeping with her children, when two unknown armed suspects attacked them and robbed her of cash she had received at a stockvel meeting during the day, as well as cellphones, before fleeing the scene,” Ngoepe explained.

No arrests have been made as yet.

“As the police, we have made this ernest call throughout the year and re-iterated it since the beginning of this festive period but some of our communities continue to ignore it.”

Ngoepe has once again urged stockvel social clubs to utilize electronic transactions to distribute their money with respective banks, instead of distributing them in cash to prevent these crimes from happening.
