Multi awarded afro-pop singer and song-writer Amanda Black was allegedly threatened with a gun by unknown man at the Mapungubwe Jazz Festival on Saturday. The alleged incident happened after Black and her crew were reportedly chased off stage as they were about to start their set at the at the Polokwane Cricket grounds.
The former idols contestant posted on her twitter page that: “We were literally chased off stage, and this guy followed us to the car and smacked one of my band members and threatened us with a gun for taking a video of him.”
“We are here at Polokwane at the Mapungubwe Jazz Festival and there was a whole mix up with times slots. We got here on time for our time slot and literally, we were about to perform and they chased us off stage. This guy, I don’t even know what his name is, shouted at us. He gets angry, and he pulls out a gun. I don’t even know how to feel. He smacked one of my band members for taking pictures. This guy was allowed in, with a gun and threatens our lives,” her entry read.
“This guy followed us to the car and smacked one of my band members and threatened us with a gun for taking a video of him,” she explained in her post.
According to a sources the risk management team deployed at the festival saw the whole incident and did nothing to protect the singer and her crew.
Spokesperson for the Department of Sport Arts and Culture, Kola Maila said they were informed about the incident and they would conduct their own investigations. “The alleged and reported incident is worrisome and the department is looking at the root of the crisis. We have already put in place people to investigate the matter and the police were informed about the incident.” Maila said.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said the complainant had opened the case at Polokwane Police Station on Sunday but later withdraw the charges.
Some of the artists that performed on the day were South African legendary Jazz musicians Selaelo Selota, Caiphus Semenya and Sello Galane.
