R16 million to Eskom for debts

The DA-led Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality has managed to pay R16 million of its debt owed to Eskom before the looming deadline.

LIMPOPO – The DA-led coalition and the administration worked tirelessly to pay the outstanding debt to avert scheduled bulk electricity cuts and to suspend the interest on the outstanding Eskom debt.

The administration inherited an exorbitant debt load from its predecessor which still impacts on the residents who expect the lights to stay on.

Marlene van Staden, Mayor of Modimolle/Mookgophong municipality, says as DA Councillor she would like to extend her appreciation to all involved, including the residents of the municipality, who have diligently been paying their municipal accounts. “We will ensure that the municipality does not fall behind with payments to avoid future power cuts to the residents of Modimolle and Mookgophong. I urge all residents and officials to ensure the spirit of cooperation and the culture of timeous payment continues into the new year and beyond.”
