“The attacker saw me and tried to escape. My colleague, Daniël Molewa, and I followed him and caught him in Pretorius Street.”
Badenhorst and Molewa took the youngster back to the crime scene and handed him over to Suricat, a local security company.
Rassie Erasmus, a Reaction Officer, says the offender is a 16-year-old boy.
The woman who was attacked with a screwdriver is scared and wants to stay anonymous.
Bosveld spoke to her husband, who also wants to stay anonymous for security reasons.
He says his wife is traumatised and that they suspected they’ve been watched for a while due to his career at a well-known company.
“The attacker sat across the road when my wife alighted from the shop. He then entered the bakkie from one of the back doors and tried to stab her in the neck. She managed to defend herself.”
He says that his wife has deep wounds and suspects that the attacker wanted to steal the bakkie. “I’m thankful for the residents who assisted in catching her attacker. It saved my wife’s life.”
A case of attempted murder was opened and the suspect appeared in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court. He remains in custody for further investigation.
