23 suspects arrested during drug busts in Limpopo

During the separate drug busts, 101 packets of CAT and 2 150 sachets of nyaope were confiscated.

LIMPOPO – Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says police had established strategies in an effort to fight the mushrooming of drugs in Limpopo.

“These operations, composed of various police units, were conducted in the Modimolle, Mookgopong and Bela-Bela Policing areas where seven suspects, between the ages of 35 and 46-years-old, were arrested for dealing and possession of drugs,” Ngoepe explained.

During the arrest, the following drugs were recovered:

– 101 packets of CAT.

– A Mercedes-Benz used in commission of crime,.

– Three plastic bags containing crystal meth with the estimated street value of R200 000.

In the Mahwelereng Cluster, a 46-year-old woman was arrested for possession of drugs after police received information that she was returning from Johannesburg with stock.

“During the arrest, 1 025 sachets of drugs, with an estimated street value of R51 250 was recovered.”

Ngoepe says these operations also made a mark in the following Clusters:  Polokwane, Tzaneen, Mahwelereng, Lephalale, Burgersfort, Groblesdal, Makhado and Thohoyandou.

During these operations, 15 suspects between the ages of 20 and 47-year- old were arrested for dealing drugs, planting dagga, possession of dagga and other drugs and the following items were recovered:

– 249 sachets of dagga.

– Dagga plants.

– 25 328 kg of dagga.

– 2 150 sachets of nyaope.

“These suspects have began appearing before different Magistrate courts throughout the province already,” Ngoepe said.

The Provincial Commissioner Lt General Nneke Ledwaba has applauded the members from various units and clusters for cracking these syndicates through their hard work and dedication in their continuous fight against the mushrooming of drugs.
