Police Commissioner’s Festive Season advice

“I feel honoured and humbled to be accorded this opportunity to say a few words as we enter the 2017 Festive Season.
To begin with, I would like to commend all South African Police Service members in Limpopo for their exceptional work, dedication and uncompromising efforts in preventing all sorts of crimes during this year.
It is a fact that we are and we will be working around the clock to protect all the citizens of this country, their properties and all visitors of our beautiful province.
This is the period that demands every Police officer to be determined and relentless in discharging policing duties.
My message for you this Festive Season is to be responsible. As exciting as the Festive Season may be, let us all take extra precautions to safe guard our lives and the lives of others.
For those who planned on taking long trips, ensure alertness on the roads, stay sober and obey road signs at all times to avoid unnecessary accidents and road fatalities.
Parents and caregivers, please monitor your children at all times and prevent them from swimming in the rivers and dams to avoid drowning.
Be vigilant when visiting shopping centres, holiday destinations and social places to avoid being caught off guard and becoming victims of crimes such as robberies, theft and rape.
If you partake in alcohol, do so responsibly and avoid provocative confrontations.
To the youth, I am sure you are of the scourge of drugs and alcohol abuse that is causing havoc and confusion in the lives of most people of your age. Educate yourself about the abuse of drugs in order for you to take responsible decisions to avoid falling victims of crimes like murder and assaults.
I also plea to the community to refrain from acts of vigilantism and mob justice. These incidents become counter productive to our goals as a province. On the same breath, I am proud of the milestones we have achieved as a province thus far.
Let me acknowledge our communities, partners and stakeholders for your ever growing eager to the involvement in the crime prevention initiatives to maintain our province as the safest in the country.
I therefore wish each and every person in the province a safe and secure Festive Season. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.”
