Herman Botha murder suspects granted R1 000 bail each

a manhunt for four suspects who are still at large is still ongoing, says the police

LIMPOPO – The four suspects that were arrested for the attack and killing of an elderly man, Herman Botha, at a farm outside Groblersdal were granted bail when they appeared in the Groblersdal Magistrates Court last Wednesday, 29 November.

The four suspects, Thomas Baloyi (23), Tobias Moyo (44), Fanie Makwakwa (25) and Chris Langa (31) were each granted R1 000 bail.

Their next court date is set for 8 January 2018.

The suspects were allegedly part of a group of eight suspects who shot and killed the 64-year-old farmer after he and his son arrived at their residence.

Police said it was alleged the suspects attacked the deceased in the garage during which Botha was shot and killed.

The suspect then assaulted his son, before they fled the scene.

According to Provincial Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspects fled in the deceased’s white sedan, they were in possession of a number of stolen firearms.

The police were notified shortly after the attack and a manhunt for suspects ensued.

The stolen vehicle was found abandoned at a shop near Loskopdam in Groblersdal, and with the help of the local neighbourhood watch, two of the suspects aged 31 and 25 were arrested at Elandsdoring, about 20 km from the scene.

Ngoepe explained that two pistols and a SUV were recovered during the arrest of the first two suspects.

Two more suspects were later arrested and a manhunt for four suspects who are still at large is still ongoing.
