POLOKWANE – Today, four years ago, Nelson Mandela passed away in his home in Houghton, Johannesburg.
He died at the age of 95 after battling a recurring lung infection.
Mandela, while increasingly politically involved from 1942, only joined the African National Congress in 1944 when he helped to form the ANC Youth League (ANCYL).

Over the years, Mandela had been pictured with many famous celebrities, sport stars and well known personalities.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation will today, unveil an exhibition, called Unthreading Mandela, in his honour.
