A spate of disruptions later and the results of nominations by branches of the African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo tipped the scales in favour of ruling party Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa for President ahead of the organisation’s elective conference later this month.
With the results announced during the Special Provincial General Council of the ANC in Limpopo today, the structure in the province was in a way the kingmaker propelling Ramaphosa into the lead as he has thus far reportedly received the majority of nominations for the position of future party president from branches in five provinces across the country.
From Limpopo branches Ramaphosa received 391 nominations opposed to Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s 104 nominations. Lindiwe Sisulu was singled out for Deputy President by ANC branches across the province, totalling 189 nominations. Gwede Mantashe emerged as favourite for National Chairpersonship with 384 nominations. Senzo Mchunu got 379 nominations for the position of Secretary-General, Losi Zingiswa 129 for his deputy and Paul Mashatile 377 nominations for Treasurer-General.
