37 motorists arrested, detained for driving under the influence, thanks to operation ‘Ndadzi’
Operation 'Ndadzi' closed it's fourth week on a high note with the arrest of 37 drunk drivers, two speedsters and four motorists with outstanding warrants of arrest throughout the province, says the Department of Transport.
LIMPOPO – According to a statement issued by Department Spokesperson, Matome Moremi, this fact however does not dampen the MEC’s concern about the high number of people caught drinking and driving as this a high number compared to the 10 arrests made last week.
Operation “Ndadzi”was launched by MEC Makhurupetje of the Department of Transport on 1 November 2017 is aimed at ensuring safety on our roads.
“We are concerned because, researched statistics indicate that over 50% of drivers involved in fatal crashes have been linked to drinking and driving. The social impact is extra-ordinary devastating because the annual cost to the economy amounts to billions which is distributed through the Road accident Fund,” MEC Makhurupetje explained.

The festive season has officially begun and the department of transport reiterates that our traffic officers will make it their business to arrest those who are found driving under the influence.
The department once again calls on motorists, who know they are going to consume alcoholic beverages, to make alternative plans with friends or insurance companies for the ‘take me home service” so that they can get home safe.
“We further urge passengers to say no to be driven by a drunk driver.”
