No load-shedding for Tzaneen, Eskom says

Eskom in Tzaneen assured residents that there will be no load-shedding or power outages with the festive season around the corner.

LIMPOPO – This was according to Eskom Tzaneen Zone Manager, Nare Ngoepe who addressed the media in Tzaneen recently.

Eskom’s Tzaneen Zone Manager is concerned about ghost vending, illegal connections, building under eskom power lines and children throwing foreign objects at electric power lines.

He said however, that minor power outages might still be experienced due to continuous rainfalls and storms.

Updating the media on corporate plan, Ngoepe said one of their major responsibilities is to ensure financial sustainability.

He said that in Mopani, Eskom was performing well in municipalities with all of them on an automatic payment system.

Ngoepe explained that they have commissioned two new power stations, Medupi in Lephalale, Limpopo and Khusile in Mpumalanga and are contributing much power to reduce power outages.

According to Ngoepe, Eskom is so far servicing a total of 278 421 customers in Mopani with Phalaborwa and Tzaneen top of the list in terms of electricity usage. “We are concerned about ghost vending, illegal connections, building under power lines and children throwing foreign objects at power lines,” Ngoepe said.

He further indicated that in order to deal with these challenges, the company will re-code electric meters with new supply group before installation.

They will also intensify education to those who allocate stands like traditional authorities and councils to avoid them from allocating stands under power lines.

Ngoepe said one of the solutions to avoid heavy loads on electricity supply is by doing some meter audits and disconnections, but during this process Eskom employees are faced with the challenges of not finding house owners to open for them.

Meanwhile, Eskom’s Customer Relations Manager in Mopani Thomas Ceko said in order to ensure an effective response by the company with regard to electricity supply, members of community have to make use of the offices close to them.

He said these are electricity supply hubs situated in different areas like Modjadjiskloof, Tzaneen, Giyani, Selati in Phalaborwa, Botlokwa and the new in Thomo village outside Giyani.

Ceko appealed to customers to make use of the company’s customer care number to report any faults, or SMS the problem you experience.

The customer care number is 08600 37566 for reporting of faults, and the SMS line number is 32211 to anonymously report electricity theft.
