Taking a leap of faith was the right move for Samuel

With determination and hard work, Samuel is now the owner of Shabback Business Enterprise, Shabback Recording Label and Shabback Bus Services.

POLOKWANE – Wanting to create a better future for himself and his family than he could build earning a regular salary, Samuel Maphoto Mashiapata took a leap of faith when he resigned his job to become an entrepreneur.

The 35-year-old from Ivy Park started his journey as an entrepreneur by enriching his education; obtaining a national diploma in electrical engineering and a diploma in business management.

He is also currently enrolled for a B.Com degree with the Management College of South Africa (Mancosa).

With determination and hard work, Samuel is now the owner of Shabback Business Enterprise, Shabback Recording Label and Shabback Bus Services.

He and his wife, Ruth, have three children between the ages of 11 years and six months.

He also has a 12-year-old child from a previous relationship.

“I grew up in Seshego Zone 1 and was the only son of the late Sarah Maphoto, who raised me as a single parent. My mother was unemployed and as a result we often went to bed hungry, yet she always had faith that it was all part of God’s plan.

“Starting out as an entrepreneur I faced several challenges and had several failures but her words of encouragement, that she hadn’t raised a coward who would give up easily, always kept me going.

“I still live by those words today. I am just as thankful to have my wife by my side as she has always supported me every step of the way.

“She always encourages me to help others wherever I can and to keep sight of my goals.”

Through his businesses he currently permanently employs 14 people, enabling them to care for their families.

“I am motivated by life itself. I used to tell myself I am here in this world to make a difference and I believe I have a purpose.

“Through Shabback Business Enterprise I am able to give back to the community through creating employment opportunities and passing on labour skills.

“When you give to the needy, God blesses you which is why I have made it part of my culture to help those in need wherever I can.”
