Two dead, four injured in head-on collision along R510 road near Northam

The driver and passenger from one vehicle died on the scene.

LIMPOPO – Two people died and four were injured after two vehicles collided head-on along the R510 road outside Northam in the Waterberg District.

It is alleged the driver of the one vehicle lost control of the vehicle due to a wet road surfaces at around 21:00 on Friday evening, said Matome Moremi, Spokesperson for the Department of Transport.

“The driver and the passenger from the one vehicle died on the scene. Three other people sustained serious injuries and the driver of the second vehicle sustained minor injuries,” he explained.

All patients were taken to the Thabazimbi and Northem hospitals for treatment.

In other parts of the province two people died in two separate head-on collisions which took place on R71 and R37 roads earlier this week.

“In Mopani District, a truck collided head-on with an oncoming sedan after allegedly overtaking on a barrier line along the R71 near Lushop on Thursday.
The driver of the sedan died on the scene and two passengers traveling in the truck sustained serious injuries. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries. All patients were taken to Van Velden Hospital for treatment.
In the Capricorn District, one person died after a truck and sedan collided head-on along the R37 road near the Kuschke turnoff on Friday morning. The driver of the sedan died on the scene.”

MEC Makhurupetje appeals to motorists to not take unnecessary risks on the road or to drink the drive. “Lets us not make this weekend a black one,” she concluded.
