Oscar Pistorius’ jail term lengthened to 13 years

The announcement was made by the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in Bloemfontein on Friday morning.

POLOKWANE – The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) increased the sentence of former Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, to 13 years and five months in prison for the 2013 murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The court said Pistorius should have been sentenced to 15 years, but the SCA took into account the time he had already served.

This was after the state argued that his original sentence of six years was “shockingly lenient”.

Pistorius was arrested on Valentine’s Day in 2013. He had fired four shots through a bathroom door, claiming that he thought there was an intruder in the bathroom.
