Fake traffic officers nabbed outside Polokwane during sting operation

This operation forms part of the ongoing Festive Seasons Operations being conducted throughout Limpopo

POLOKWANE – Four suspects were arrested and various assortment of traffic insignia and clothing recovered, during a sting operation along the Mogwadi (Dendron) road this afternoon (Wednesday).

The operation led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner Detection Major General Bafana Linda composed of various Police Units being the Provincial Tracking Team, the Crime Intelligent, the K9 Unit and the Mounted Unit.

The trio crime syndicate members were intercepted while pretending to conduct point duty along the road. However it was later discovered that they were waiting  for a particular company car transporting valuable items to hijack it, explained Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The police found that the vehicle the suspects were using had false number plates and various assortment of traffic insignia and clothing were recovered, he added.

These suspects will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon on various charges ranging from conspiracy to commit car hijacking to that of impersonating a police officer.

Police investigations continue, he concluded.

The Saps Provincial Commissioner LT. General Nneke Ledwaba has commended these Teams of Police Officers for the job-well done.
