Suspected poacher shot and killed during security patrol on Hoedspruit farm

The police are investigating a case of murder following the shooting of a suspected poacher man on a farm in Glenlyden Park, Hoedspruit on Monday afternoon.

LIMPOPO – According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda, security officers from a local security firm were patrolling the area when they noticed three men in the bushes.

“One of the three men was armed and allegedly started shooting in the direction of the officers who returned fire immediately, fatally wounding the man. The other two suspects vanished into the surrounding bushes,” he explained.

One security officer sustained minor injuries during the shootout and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, he confirmed

The police were notified and upon arrival at the scene the members found the deceased lying in an opening which looked like a camping site.

A firearm, knives, snares, cooking utensils, mealie meal and biltong hung on several trees were also found on the scene, Netshiunda concluded.
