15 human trafficking victims rescued from a house in Polokwane

The Ethiopian victims, between the ages of 16 and 30-years-old, were rescued by the Hawks and police on Tuesday night.

POLOKWANE – Three suspects arrested on Tuesday for allegedly trafficking of 15 people have appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate Court today and were  remanded in custody to allow for further police investigation.

Police received a tip-off which led them to the house in the city, whereby the three accused were found in the house and arrested.

All three suspects are expected to reappear before the court on 27 November 2017, said Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Malueke.

POLOKWANE- Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Malueke says they received intelligence about victims being held captive at a house in Polokwane.

The information was followed up which led police and the hawks to the house.

“Three suspects in their early thirties, who were found in the house and are also believed to be Ethiopian, were arrested and are expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate Court on Thursday, 16 November 2017,” Maluleke explained.

All the victims have been taken to a place of safety and police investigations continue.
