‘Doom Prophet’ in court for Assault GBH

LIMPOPO – Prophet Letheba Moncha Rabalego (24), dubbed the “Doom Prophet” appeared before the Mookgophong Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on a charge of Assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Rabalego was arrested in Mookgophong (Naboomspruit) for assault GBH following an incident which occurred on 19 November 2016, where it is alleged he sprayed doom into the faces of his congregation, said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“He claimed the poison would heal them.”

“The case against this prophet was subsequently opened in terms of the Agricultural Remedy for Purpose or Reward Act 36 of 1947 Section 7(2)(A) which states that ‘No person shall use or recommend any agricultural remedy or stock remedy for purpose or in any manner’,” Ngoepe added.

Rabalego is currently out on a warning and the assault case against him is set to continue in the same court from 11-14 December 2017.

In December 2016, the Limpopo Health Department obtained a court interdict to stop Rabalago and the members from the church he leads, Mount Zion General Assembly, to refrain from spraying or applying Doom on people.

A second assault case was opened against Rabalego on 25 December 2016 by a female member of the congregation after he allegedly sprayed her in the face with Doom.

Police investigations ensued and the prophet was arrested, appeared in court and was released on warning.
