Encouraging communities to ‘Learn’

Mushi Mamabolo is the founder of Learn and said the inspiration for the initiative came from realising the need for change in unprivileged communities.

POLOKWANE – Wanting to encourage the community to learn as much as possible, especially among the youth, a group of young individuals founded a Non-profit organisation, Learn, to reach out to unprivileged communities.

“We want to encourage the community, especially the youth, to value the importance of education and learning life skills. Through Learn we want to bring about innovative minds within the youth,” Mushi explained.

He added Learn, founded on 5 September, focuses on empowering the communities around Limpopo in all disciplines of life, not only in academics but also in helping the youth realise their talents.

“There is a board within Learn where each of the members have designated duties which are crucial to our goal of developing the communities. Within Learn there are also various departments including academics, sports and recreation. The organisation is still new and one of our first projects will be in conjunction with Book Relay. We plan to have an outreach initiative before the end of the year at Senwabarwana in Limpopo which will benefit learners academically,” Mushi added.

Other projects they want to focus on are modelling and poetry competitions in Polokwane. “Our biggest challenge at the moment is to find sponsors to help us with our various projects. We are dedicated to making Learn a success and we will not allow these stumbling blocks from keeping us from our goal of making a difference in unprivileged communities.”

He said he is thankful to everyone who are a part of Learn for helping him carry the torch.

“In a non-profit organisation that does charity work you have to have individuals who are determined and focused, who will help you carry the weight as this is how the organisation will begin to pick up momentum.”

The Learn team describe themselves as an omnipresent flame that will bring light to the future of South Africa and the youth.
