Children’s Ward painted to lift spirits

A group of caring residents along with a group of people from Australia recently painted a portion of the Voortrekker Hospital children's ward

MOKOPANE – This was part of an initiative to start becoming the change we would like to see in our community.

According to one of the initiators, Marinda Marshall, research has proven the positive effect of the use of bright colours in children’s wards.

“This not only uplifts the state of the child mentally, but also physically.

“This helps a lot with the healing process and welfare of the child. We invite the community of Mogalakwena to take hands with us and become part of an initiative #mybeautifulMokopane.

“In this we as the citizens of Mokopane and the greater Mogalakwena region start seeing ourselves as the pioneers who will make this town and country beautiful.

A playful whale is painted on one of the walls.

“There is no use in complaining about the state of things if we have not even lifted a hand to change it.”

The CEO of Voortrekker Hospital, Dr Malumbete Ralethe, says: “We are so grateful for this. It gives the children life and upliftment. We are glad to be in partnership with amazing people like these. They mean a lot to us.

“The children’s ward looks beautiful. Thank you once again.”

Completing the painting of the children’s ward is one of many projects that is envisioned and they would like the community to join hands with them.

“We can make a difference. We can uplift our town project by project.”
