Another teacher arrested, in Lebowakgomo, for raping a minor

This latest arrest brings the total to seven incidents of rape on minors in the past month

LIMPOPO – A 34-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl, leading to the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba condemning the prevalence of incidents of sexual offences perpetrated against minor children in Limpopo.

Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says on Monday, 30 October, the victim was sent to an office where she found the suspect.

He requested her cellphone number under the pretence that he wanted to assist her with school work, after hours.

“The same evening, the suspect called the victim on her cellphone and when she arrived, he drove the victim in his car to the nearby bushes and raped her,” Ngoepe explained.

The matter was reported to the police and the suspect was arrested.

The suspect will appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrates Court, today, on a charge of rape.

The arrest of this teacher follows the recent arrests of suspects accused of allegedly raping minor children in different areas. A doctor, an educator in Ritavi, another educator in Lebowakgomo and three pastors in Maake, Namakgale and Lulekani policing areas.

Ngoepe says this is a serious worrying factor to the police and these incidents must be strongly condemned by all.
