Man and woman arrested for harbouring escapees, granted bail

The duo appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate Court today.

LIMPOPO – Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says the duo were granted R1 000 bail, each.

Their case was remanded to 23 November.

The duo appeared alongside the five prisoners who were rearrested after escaping from Kutama Senthumule Correctional Centre on Thursday, 26 Ocotber.

The five prisoners, Jabulani Mahlangu, Ntshengedzeni Manykha, Ntshavheni Munyai, Chris Faku and Justice Makamu were remanded in custody until 23 November for further police investigations to take place.


LIMPOPO – A 32-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were arrested on Monday for defeating the ends of justice and possession of stolen property.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo explains that the two suspects were arrested, after four prisoners who escaped from Kutama Senthumule Correctional Center, on Thursday, were found on their premises. The duo had given them clothing to change into.

“It is understood four of the seven escapees went to a house in Louis Trichardt and were harboured by the duo before leaving the premises in the early hours of Friday (2017-10-27) morning.,” he said.

Correctional Services uniforms that were allegedly worn by these prisoners were found on the premises.

“All these escapees were rearrested after community members provided the police with valuable information. The two suspects will appear in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court today.”

The five prisoners that were rearrested will also appear in the same court today with remaining prisoners still at large.
