According to earlier reports Mpenyane met with the complainant, an owner of a construction company, and demanded R19 000 from the complainant in order to be issued with a certificate of compliance. This amount was later reduced to R4 000.
The complainant reported the matter to the Hawks and a trap was set whereby the suspect was arrested immediately after receiving the money he had demanded from the complainant.
Mpenyane was sentenced to pay R5000 or 18 months imprisonment, concluded Maluleke.
