Suspect in court for murder of Makhado SAPS detective (59)

The detective was stabbed while attempting to arrest the suspect last week in Louis Trichardt

LIMPOPO – The 30-year-old suspects arrested after the fatal stabbing of WO Andrew Nthabeleni Mudau (59), appeared before the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court this morning (Tuesday 24 October 2017) and was remanded in custody to allow for further police investigation.

Mudau was stabbed to death on Sunday afternoon while attempting to arrest the said suspect.

The suspect appeared on three charges which include murder, theft out of motor vehicle and assault with grievous bodily harm (GBH), said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

He was remanded in custody and is set to reappear on 1 November 2017 for a formal bail application. Police investigations continue, he concluded.


LIMPOPO – The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the killing of yet another police member by a criminal who was to be arrested.

This follows the death of an on duty Detective Warrant Officer in Louis Trichardt on Sunday afternoon.

According to Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, WO Andrew Nthabeleni Mudau (59), who was attached to the Makhado Detective Unit, was stabbed while attempting to arrest a suspect at a house in Louis Trichardt.

“It is understood the police were following up information after cases of theft out of motor vehicle and assault GBH were reported against the suspect. The information led police to the said house.”

“The suspect became violent when the police attempted to make the arrest and stabbed the WO, he added.

He confirmed that Mudau later died in hospital.

The 30-year-old suspect was thereafter cornered and subdued. He is set to appear before the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 24 October 2017, on chargers of murder, theft out of a motor vehicle and assault GBH.

Police investigations continue.
