Haenertsburg cemetery ‘an eyesore for the community’

Apart from the rubbish spread throughout the Haenertsburg cemetery, the roads that the Greater Tzaneen Municipality promised to tend to, are still riddled with potholes, says residents

HAENERTSBURG – The cemetery is a mess. Apart from the rubbish spread throughout the Haenertsburg cemetery, the roads that the Greater Tzaneen Municipality promised to tend to, are still riddled with potholes.

GTM Media Liaison Officer, Neville Ndala, said that Haenertsburg was receiving attention. However, the cemetery which is showing signs of neglect, is still an eyesore for the community.

A communal effort was made to collect funds, as the locals decided to take it upon themselves. The GTM then came forward halting these plans and filling the potholes with soil.

Recent rains have now dislodged the soil and some of these potholes are half a meter deep. The parking area is one that also needs tending to, as the drop is too steep for small vehicles to travel on.

The dustbin at the cemetery entrance has been damaged.

According to a municipal employee, Bishop Shai, he was informed by a person working for the GTM Roads and Storms, about the lack of funds hindering them from fixing the road.

The matter which is yet to be addressed, makes it difficult for a hearse and mourners to make use of this road.
