Pipe bursts leave Kameeldoringpark and Chroompark residents without water

The neighbourhoods have been suffering for more than two weeks with random pipe bursts

MOKOPANE – Bosveld did some investigating on Thursday, 19 October, after receiving a phone call from a resident complaining of another pipe burst.

On the scene, at the corner of Rabe Straat and Danie Theron, water streamed out from under the tar where the pipe had burst, causing the tar to lift.

The Traffic Department was on the scene to ensure road safety and the technical team of Mogalakwena Municipality told Bosveld they are doing what they can.

There were, however, two other bursts on the corner of President Steyn and Charl Cilliers Street as well as Rabe Street that also needed attention.

Malesela Selokela, Head of Communication for Mogalakwena Municipality, has ensured that all the problems will receive urgent attention.

Marcelle Maritz, Councillor of Mogalakwena Municipality and Limpopo leader of Freedom Front plus said: “The Municipality have called in the help of engineers from Polokwane who noted that the water pressure control valve in Fourie Street, which is Kameeldoring Park and Chroom Park, is very old. The valve could not regulate the water pressure and the fluctuation in water pressure is causing the pipes to burst. The engineers will find a temporary solution and the new valve will be installed by next week Wednesday. I call on residents to be patient as there is a team working overtime to rectify the situation. Residents should invest in water cans in their households to provide for when there are water problems or shortages. ”

Yolande Coetzee, DA Ward Councillor of Mogalakwena Municipality said she hopes the problem will be sorted out as soon as possible. “We are in constant contact with the Municipality and the engineers who are working on the problem.”

According to Coetzee, residents should also take note of the current water pipe burst at Corner Danie Theron and Rabe and another one in Rabe street, Corner Fero and Kolbat Street and Amatis Street.
