It’s time to put your running shoes on as the annual Run 4 Cancer Ultra Marathon is just around the corner

The marathon, set to take place on Saturday, 28 October, is a health and fitness awareness and support programme recognised in consolidation of different cancer infections that aims to support different cancer awareness programmes and different victims who are affected, infected and survivors.

POLOKWANE – This race is a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon and Two Oceans Marathon.

The aim of the project is to to leave a shared commemoration to those who lost their loved ones through cancer, those who are affected and those who have survived.

Taking part in the Run 4 Cancer Ultra Marathon symbolises telling or sharing your story of hope on behalf of those whom are affected by cancer and providing support and, most important of all, encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

SA Run 4 Cancer Ultra Marathon is a non-profit organisation which promotes health and fitness awareness and supports programmes recognised in consolidation of different cancer infections.

The main project and major event is Run 4 Cancer Marathon which is a 48 km road race marathon.

The project will be run in partnership with the Polokwane Athletics Club and Polokwane Run/Walk for Life as their current licensed entity and accredited partner for long distance, fun run and walk marathons.

Starting times, points and routes:

• The 48 km will start at 06:00 from Old Mokopane Route close to Mokopane Toll gate.

• The 32 km will start at 06:00 from Old Mokopane Route close to Weenen Bricks.

• The 21 km will start at 06:00 from Old Mokopane Route close to Protea Hotel The Ranch Resort.

• The 10 km will start at 07:00 at the Polokwane Cricket Club.

• The 5 km will start at 07:30 at the Polokwane Cricket Club.

Everyone finishes at the Polokwane Cricket Club and all finishers will receive medals.

To pre-enter for this race, visit www.protime.co.za, all online entries will get a T-shirt with pre-entries closing on 22 October.

Confirmation of the entry will be sent via SMS or e-mail and must be used as proof when collecting the race number.

Entries at the Polokwane Cricket Club can be done on Friday by runners for all races between 16:00 and 20:00.

They will receive T-shirts.

On Saturday only runners for the 5 km and 10 km fun run can still register from 04:00 to 06:00.

There will be no T-shirts.

Entry fees:

• 5 km: R60.

• 10 km: R165 + R30 temporary licence.

• 21 km: R170 + R45 bus ticket to start + R30 temporary licence.

• 32 km: R250 + R45 bus ticket to start + R30 temporary licence.

• 48 km: R265 + R45 bus ticket to start + R30 temporary licence.

Transportation times: 48 km, 32 km and 21 km athletes will depart from Polokwane Cricket Club at 04:30. Use of buses is recommended as the road will be closed.
