Locals afforded access to free health screenings

The Rotarians for Family Health and Aids Prevention (RFHA) alongside various other foundations, partnered to bring forth a full health screening package to the public, this at no costs.

POLOKWANE – Rotarian Marius Liebenberg says they assisted with eye tests, blood pressure tests, HIV/aids tests and a whole lot of other tests.

“We then advised these people to pay a visit to their nearest doctor or clinic,” he said.

The partnership, initiated in 120 areas across the country, was attended by dignitaries such as Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi.

This campaign took place on Tuesday, 3 October at Thulamahashe Stadium.

Local Rotary Clubs also visited Moletjie where they assisted residents with screening tests.

Motsoaledi emphasised the importance of the event, also speaking on the importance of building a brighter future for girls in the country. ”

We have to intensify our efforts and prioritise our adolescent girls and young women, to make sure that they realise their full potential and have opportunities to make sure that they and their families have a better life” Motsoaledi said. The public were able to make use of a series of services inclusive of diabetes checks, hypertension and TB screenings, as well as HIV/aids counselling and testing. The campaign aims to, among others, decrease new HIV infections in teenage girls and young women, teenage pregnancies and gender-based violence.

The National Department of Health, Rotary International, Gilead Sciences, the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, USAID, the SABC Foundation and Caxton are the partners in this initiative.
