Myngenoegen English Private School (MEPS) had their first matric dance in 12 years at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World recently which was attended by 18 matrics dressed to the nines in ravishing suits and dresses.
The School Manager, Alice Phemma explained that matrics in the previous years wanted simple things such as a braai but this year’s Grade 12s asked to have a dance. She further said they are planning to continue with the culture of hosting a matric dance every year to treat Grade 12 learners to a special night prior to the senior certificate examinations.
She added that the night was also to celebrate and honour the founder of the school, Betty Kennedy who passed on last year after a short illness. The night was observed under the theme ‘Masquerade Ball’ and learners had the opportunity to mingle with the local businessman and author, Simphiwe Mdlalose who delivered the keynote address on the night.
Phemma wished all the Grade 12s the very best of luck ahead in their final examination and added that they will aim for 100% pass rate.
