32-year-old man arrested for the murder of Senior Thohoyandou cop

LIMPOPO – Police spokesperson Lt COl Moatshe Ngoepe says the suspect has been positively linked to the murder of the Lt. Colonel Mamatsiari, the attempted murder of the POP Constable and four armed robberies at the four clinics in the Waterval area.

“The suspect will appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate Court on Thursday, 12 October,” he said.


LIMPOPO – The deceased in this incident has been identified as Lt Col Phineas Mamatsiari (55) who was attached to the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit in Thohoyandou.

Mamatsiari was shot and killed by unknown armed suspects on Sunday, 8 October.

Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the constable (32) who was also injured during the incident is still recuperating in hospital and cannot be named because he is a witness.

Ngoepe says police preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects were injured during the ordeal.

“Anyone who sees people with the gunshot wounds in any health facility in Limpopo or any other province, or with information about these suspects are urged to cintact Captain Wilson Mashamaite at 0716759928; the nearest police station; the crime stop number 0860010111 or the crime line sms 32211,” he concluded.
