POLOKWANE – After receiving several reports by our readers of brown water coming out of their taps, Review spoke to the spokesperson of the Polokwane Municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo, regarding the situation.
This comes after a shut off of the Olifantspoort line.

Mothapo says isolated reports have been received from areas like Ivy Park, Penina Park and others, who receive direct supply from Olifantspoort.
“Remember that when the plant was shut off yesterday, it was due to muddy water being extracted from the Lepelle River,” he explained.
Mothapo says there shouldn’t be cause for panic as the water is treated for safe human consumption when it leaves the plant.
He advised residents to take precautionary measures, like boiling the water before consuming.
“The water is treated from the plant and the municipality also conducts regular intensive tests at various points on the water received.”

The municipality together with Lepelle Northern Water will continue to monitor the situation.
