Foreigner sentenced in the Thohoyandou High Court to life in prison for rape and robbery

The accused would terrorise the community armed with firearm and a panga.

LIMPOPO – Max Virima Tinashe (30), from Maswingo-Mieke village in Zimbabwe, was sentenced recently for 38 robberies and rapes, which he committed between March 2012 and April 2015.

He was arrested near the Beitbridge Boarder Post.

“Tinashe was accused of terrorizing communities, especially women, with his victims including partners having sex inside cars in the bushes; people who were walking at night; breaking into homes and robbing and raping women between the ages of 14 and 35-years-old.

The accused was sentenced as follows:

– 11 life sentences for rape.

– 180 years for armed and house robbery.

– 15 years for house breaking and theft.

– Four years for kidnapping.

– Three years and six months for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

– Two years for malicious damage to property.

The Provincial Commissioner Lt. General Nneke Ledwaba has applauded the team of detectives and crime intelligence, who worked hard to ensure that Tinashe was brought to book.

“This is a milestone achievement in the fight against serious and violent crimes, including rapes, especially where firearms and other dangerous weapons are involved. We are determined to clean all the affected areas of any acts of criminality. We urge the community to continue supporting us by giving quality and reliable information at all times,” concluded General Ledwaba.
