The economics graduate turned fashion designer shared her love for stylish clothes inspired her to become a designer. She did her research through other designers until she was positive she was ready to take on the fashion industry.

Some of the challenges she faced starting out was building clientele. “I had to compete with other businesses. As a small business, I had to convince people to come to me instead of the more established designers, which was a task. I had to prove myself and show them why I was worth taking a chance on,” she explained. So passionate about her work, Talane has managed to find a balance between having a family and growing her business.

Emeraldstones Events is making big moves in the fashion industry.”We are planning a fashion show, Fashion In The Jungle, before the end of the year. It’s going to be held in Rustenburg and it will be the first of it’s kind. We will bring together designers from all over the African continent as we are trying to unite Africa and showcase the talent the continent has to offer. We are just tying up loose ends before we can confirm a date,” she said. Her plans for the future is to start a baby clothing line and focus more on weddings. In December she plans to launch wedding packages to ease the stress of planning a wedding for her clients.

She attributed the success of her business to the support she received from her family.

In future, she plans to have walk-in shops and boutiques in various provinces. “I have big plans for the future. I want Emeraldstones Events to be a household name. I also want to empower women, I want to be the woman who girls will aspire to be like,” she added.
