Heritage Day celebrations at Polokwane Correctional Centre last Thursday was a colourful and enjoyable event when staff members exchanged their formal uniform for traditional attire reflective of the country’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.
On the day the staff prepared and enjoyed traditional food such as sorghum porridge, steamed bread, traditional salads, potjiekos, chicken heads and feet and mopane worms.
Communications Manager at the centre, Zandile Mabunda said with the celebrations they wanted employees to embrace each other’s culture and traditions and also foster social cohesion. “Our employees are from different ethnic groups and some don’t know each other’s cultures. The celebrations served as platform for them to know more about each other’s culture and traditions,” Mabunda said.
