Victims of fatal N11 crash identified

The accident occurred near Tiberius in the Waterberg district on Sunday afternoon.

LIMPOPO – A fifth person has died after the collision between a sedan and minibus taxi along the N11, near Tiberius in the Waterberg district, on Sunday afternoon.

One of the injured occupants from the minibus taxi died in hospital on Monday morning at around 11:00.

According to a statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, a Polo Vivo with four occupants and a Nissan Combi carrying 14 occupants collided with each other.

“The Polo Vivo was travelling from Steilloop to Mokopane and the Nissan Combi was en-route to Lephalale from Mokopane when the incident occurred,” he said.

The four deceased from the Polo Vivo were identified as Charles Pila (32),  Joseph Morudu (31), Eliphus Pila (22), and Klaas Mabe (49). The fifth deceased from the minibus taxi has been identified as Piet Kobe (43).

12 occupants from the Combi including the driver, are still recuperating in the hospital and the other two occupants were unharmed.

The Police in Gilead, outside Mokopane, are investigating a culpable homicide incident, concluded Ngoepe.


LIMPOPO – Four people died and five people were injured when a sedan collided head on with a minibus taxi on the N11 on Sunday afternoon.

The accident occurred near Tiberius in the Waterberg district after the driver of the sedan allegedly lost control of the vehicle, said the Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Joshua Kwapa.

All deceased were occupants in the sedan and all injured parties from the minibus taxi.

“Three passengers sustained minor injuries and two including the driver of the vehicle sustained serious injuries,” he added.

The exact cause of the accident will be determined through police investigation, he confirmed.

In other parts of the province, a 41-year-old woman died after the vehicle she was travelling in overturned along the R36 near (Morebeng) Soekmekaar on Sunday evening.

The exact cause of the accident is not yet known however over-speeding is being suspected, he concluded.
