LIMPOPO – Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide in which six people died after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned along the R36 near Ritavi on Sunday evening.
Five of the six occupants, including a 8-year-old child died on the scene. The sixth occupant sustained serious injuries and was transported to Ritavi Hospital where he later died, said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.
The deceased have been identified as Phillemon Sonti Mankondo (53), Patrick Matome Maowashe (46-year-old driver of the vehicle), Simon Segwape (8), Mphekwane Mmoye Ramalepe (24), Victor Segwape (33).
The sixth deceased is still unknown.
Further investigations revealed that all occupants are from Mopye village in Bolobedu village outside Tzaneen and are from one family, he confirmed.
The cause of the accident is still unknown but police investigations continue.
