Robbery suspects caught red-handed, one fatally shot

Three armed suspects were attempting to rob a petrol station in the Burgersfort policing area

LIMPOPO – Two of three suspect have been shot and one killed, after police intercepted a business robbery in progress at a petrol station in Burgersfort, on Sunday evening at around 22:30.

According to Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, officers were in the area conducting routine patrols when they became suspicious on the movement of people in and around the said garage.

“It is alleged that three armed suspect’s, wearing balaclavas, attacked the personnel at the garage including the security guards and ordered them to lie down on the floor before ransacking the shop. The officers ordered the suspects to surrender, however, when they started shooting at the officers, they retaliated and subsequently one suspect was fatally shot, one was shot and injured and the third suspect fled the scene.

The injured suspect is still recuperating in hospital, under police guard and the third suspect has been identified and a manhunt is still underway, he added.

During the incident two firearms, cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of money were found in their possession.

The injured suspect will appear before the Burgersfort Magistrate’s Court as soon as he has recovered, on charges of business robbery, possession of firearms without license and attempted murder.

Police investigations continue.
