Limpopo fisherman find human remains in fishing net

The fishermen were net fishing ain the river between Mogalatsane and Elandskraal when they made the gruesome discovery

LIMPOPO – The Rakgoadi Police in Rakgoadi are investigating the death of a 55-year-old man whose remains were discovered by fishermen in Olifants River outside Groblersdal.

The deceased was reported missing on Sunday 24 September 2017 and it is alleged that fishermen who were busy fishing at the river between Mogalatsane and Elandskral found some of his body parts when bring up their net, reported Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“When the net was hooked and lifted out of the river, they saw a human head and hand and reported it to the police immediately.”

The deceased was identified by family members at the scene, however his remains were taken to the mortuary for an autopsy and for positive identification, he said.

Ngoepe added that the exact cause of the deceased’s death is unknown but the possibility that he might be eaten by crocodiles may not be ruled out.

Police investigations continue, he concluded.
