Operation Opanwe cracks down on crime in Limpopo

26 suspects were arrested during the operation

LIMPOPO – The operation, which was led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner Policing Major, General Jan Scheepers, accompanied by senior officers from the provincial office, units, clusters and stations throughout Limpopo, was aimed at uprooting all crime categories in various communities

On Thursday, the operation was taken to Lephalale, which covered a number of areas including the CBD, farms, as well as the Marapong area, where stop and searches, roadblocks, tracing of wanted suspect’s and patrols were conducted.

During the operation, 20 illegal immigrants were arrested as well as six other suspects who were arrested for arson.

17 road traffic fines were issued to motorists, 189 motor vehicles were searched and the following items were confiscated.

Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the arrested suspects will appear before the Lephalale Magistrates Court, soon.

He went on to say that the operation was followed by an outreach programme where General Scheepers interacted with the farming community in and around Lephalale.

“Joint strategies to fight crime by both the police and the farming community were established and farmers were also given an opportunity to raise policing related concerns,” he concluded.
