POLOKWANE – The aim of the Provincial Rural Safety Plan is to bridge the gap between police, the farming community and the community at large.
Polokwane’s police team was under the leadership of Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Maj Genl Jan Scheepers, for the launch which commenced with a display from police units exhibiting a scene of a farm attack and a demonstration of what should not be done at the crime scenes by anybody.
Disturbing a crime scene, they explained, can ultimately have negative repercussions on the prosecution of perpetrators. The provincial management then continued the process of unfolding the rural safety plan in the province as it was done at the national office.
The event was attended by delegates from the cluster rural safety coordinators, Agri Limpopo, National African Farmers Union (Nafu) and African Farmers Association of South Africa (Afasa), Community Policing Forums, Community Safety Forums and residents.
Stakeholders delivered messages of support and emphasised how working together will help the police to reach their goals in their mandate of making South Africa safe for all.
The keynote address was delivered by Maj Genl Jan Scheepers and he called on all farming communities to cooperate with the local communities in a bid to eradicate farm attacks and any forms of crime on farms.
