Seven suspects allegedly underway to commit an armed robbery were stopped in their tracks during an intelligence-driven operation outside Thohoyandou last Thursday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe
Ngoepe could not indicate whether the suspects had appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court yet.
He said the Police received valuable information about a group of armed suspects who were planning to commit an armed robbery at Tswinga just outside Thohoyandou. Members of the Tactical Response Team, the provincial K9 Unit and Thohoyandou and Makhado Visible Policing Unit quickly mobilised and the suspects were all apprehended within minutes, according to Ngoepe. During the arrest, three pistols and two vehicles with falsified registration number plates were confiscated. The possibility exists that the suspects could be linked to other similar cases in the area.
Ngoepe said the Police hope that the arrests will send a strong message to other criminals that the men and women in blue have eyes and ears everywhere and they will not hesitate to act on information of any criminal activity. The suspects are facing charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, possession of illegal firearms and possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles.
Investigations continue.
