Four stolen vehicles were recovered during a Police operation conducted along the borderline of the Limpopo River in an effort to stop cross-border smuggling of vehicles on the weekend.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said the operation was conducted by members of the Public Order Policing Unit, Makhado Cluster, South African National Defence Force, Visible Policing Unit and Crime Intelligence Unit which resulted in the inception of four vehicles in the vicinity of Beit Bridge. The suspects evaded arrest by fleeing when they noticed approaching Police officers, according to Ngoepe.
The recovered vehicles are a Mercedes-Benz stolen in Mabopane, a Toyota Hilux Legend 45 stolen at Kwaggafontein, an Isuzu KB300 stolen at Sebenza and a Ford Ranger belonging to a rental company.
Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba commended all operatives involved in the procedure for their relentless determination to stamp out incidents of smuggling along the border.
