Four arrested for public violence and arson incidents outside Giyani

The estimated damage during this incident amounts to R100 000 says the police

LIMPOPO – Four suspects have been arrested following an incident where a group of residents went on a violent rampage in Blinkwater village, Hlanganani outside Giyani on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the group were allegedly hunting down the people involved in the recent shooting and killing of Nyiko Nathiel Makhubele (24) a taxi driver from the same village.

“During this incident a three bedroom house, a four bedroom house and one rondawell belonging to various families estimated to value of R100 oo0 were burnt  to ashes. No injuries or fatalities were reported, he added.

The arrested suspects, aged between 23 and 49-years-old, will appear before the Hlanganani Magistrate Court soon on charges of public violence and arson.

The Saps Provincial Commissioner LT. General Nneke Ledwaba has warned these community members who are still taking the law into their own hands to stop it ,not so, they will be dealt with accordingly because we are not leaving in a banana Province.
Members of the community must refrain from this tendency and to stop this heinous acts which is totally uncalled for.

Public order Police members have since been deployed to the area to monitor the situation and more arrests are expected.

The Police investigations are continuing, concluded Ngoepe.
