Tumelo started working at Lancet in January 2014 and said she loves being in a continuous process of learning as much as working for the company.

POLOKWANE – Working alongside administrative personnel, charge nurses and technicians in the laboratory and reporting to her regional Pathologist, Dr Mabitsela Mahlakwane, who actively guides her steps, Tumelo Mothemela flourishes as a marketing officer.

Aside from her responsibilities as a marketing officer, the 28-year-old Tumelo is also a wife and a mother of two sons, Lehlogonolo (9) and Khumo (1).

“I had a colourful childhood. I was born at Helen Frans Hospital in Bochum to later grow up in Vosloorus in Gauteng where I stayed with my paternal grandparents. At the age of six I moved back to Limpopo and stayed in a village called Schoongezicht in the Bochum area in Limpopo and I’m currently residing in Polokwane,” she said.

She decided in her Gr 10 year she wanted to be in a vibrant, energetic and almost unpredictable industry. “I always knew I wanted new challenges on a day-to-day basis in my workplace,” she explained.

Tumelo studied public relations management at the Vaal University of Technology in Vanderbijlpark for three years.

“I love the marketing field as I will be faced with something new to work on daily; a new problem to resolve, a new concept to come up with and at times a whole new angle in handling tasks altogether. As a marketing officer, I’m responsible for the developing of the marketing strategy for my workplace in order to promote the image, brand awareness and services. My other responsibilities include establishing and maintaining relations and personal contact with existing and potential new clients which include doctors, private hospitals, hospital managers and suppliers. I proactively market and sell our services on a day-to-day basis to existing and prospective customers, representing them at exhibitions and marketing events. I serve as a first point of contact between us and customers to address queries,” she added.

“There’s always something new every day which you did not know the previous day,” she explained.

Whenever she has some free time she loves spending it with her family. “I’m family-orientated, so whatever activity I do involves my family. We enjoy playing games together, whether it be board games or video games, I usually lose, however,” she laughed.
