“Vala Madi” operatives intercept vehicle smugglers along borderline

The operation was conducted along the borderline from Saturday evening through to Sunday morning

LIMPOPO – Police operation “Vala Madi” (close the tap/water) has once again yielded positive results with the confiscation of vehicles which were on the verge of being smuggled into Zimbabwe, reports the SAPS.

The operation was conducted along the borderline from Saturday evening through to Sunday morning and led to the recovery of four vehicles at different points of the borderline in the vicinity of the the Beitbridge Border Post.

The operation comprised of members from the Public Order Police, the Makhado Cluster led by the Cluster Commander, the South African National Defence Force ( SANDF) the VIS and Crime Intelligence.

During the operation a Mercedez Benz C220 (valued at R400 000, stolen in Mabopane in September), a Toyota Hilux Legend 45 (valued at R268 000, stolen in Kwaggafontein),  an ISUZU KB300 (valued at R250 000, stolen from Sebenza) and a Ford Ranger 2.5, D/Cab (valued at R 300 000, belonging to a rental company) were confiscated, said Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

“The suspects however managed to evade arrest by running away when the police ‘pounced on them’, he added.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba commended all operatives involved for their relentless determination to stamp out incidents of smuggling at our border line.
