An activist in her own right

Orifha Rambau describes herself as a loud and outgoing yet humble person

POLOKWANE – Rambau owns Eccentric Flames Empire, an events management company and she also co-founded Do It Like A Man (Dilam) foundation with Imani Munyai.

She describes herself as a loud and outgoing yet humble person. The 22-year-old beauty is a final year biochemistry student at the University of Limpopo.

Dilam has adopted kids from Mashamba and surrounding villages.

“The aim with Dilam kids is to not just donate food and clothes but to also give them once in a lifetime experiences. We take the kids to places like the mall. For most people, the mall is nothing big, but for the children in impoverished villages, going to the mall is a dream. We also have treasure hunts to make it educational. In December, that becomes our focus. Some of the challenges the foundation faces are directly linked to finances as we use the proceeds from Eccentric Flames Empire to fund Dilam activities. It’s difficult to do everything we want to do for the kids. If we had more money, we would be able to do more. We appreciate the assistance from Mabidi Bus Services in sponsoring the foundation with buses to transport the children. Vuwa College has helped us by giving two scholarships for our Dilam kids every year,” she explained.

Also under the Dilam Foundation, she has ‘Female Army’, which is aimed at women empowerment.

She recalls one of her proudest moment as the launch of the Female Army, “The launch was a huge success, we had all female everything. The bartenders were female, the DJ was female, we even had female bouncers. It was a female haven and to top it off entrance was a packet of sanitary pads”, she gushed. Female Army has grown in great strides and continues to provide sanitary pads. In August they partnered with Polokwane Municipality to march against women abuse.

For somebody as young as she is to have accomplished the things she has, she draws motivation from her mother who has her own ways of helping the needy. “My family is my biggest cheerleaders along with my fiancé. They are my strength and support structure,” she added.
