POLOKWANE – According to police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, Mehjabeen Patel (51) was shot on Tuesday evening.

It is alleged the Patel and her domestic worker were at home around 19:00 on Tuesday when the armed suspect(s) opened fire on them. Patel was wounded and rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a few hours later. The domestic worker did not sustain any injuries.
According to earlier reports, Patel was shot in an alleged armed robbery, however, Ngoepe says the motive behind the killing is still unknown as nothing was taken from the deceased’s house.
Rameez Patel’s father, Firoz, was also shot and killed last year.

Rameez Patel is accused of murdering his wife, Fatima Patel and was arrested in 2015.

He is still on trial for the murder.
