Vuwani learners suffer as #VuwaniShutdown continues
Learners continue to pay dearly for the protest that has forced them to close schools.
LIMPOPO – Gr 12 learners in Vuwani missed their Geography Paper 1 and 2 preliminary exams in the wake of the continued shutdown.
Last Monday they did not write their Agriculture and Tshivenda Home Language papers, missed their Business Studies paper on Tuesday and on Wednesday their Economics paper.
On Monday, the Vuwani Municipality offices and Traffic Station which will render services from Vhembe Municipality, was opened by the provincial government.
David Mulaudzi, one of the learners that were supposed to write exams, said he was disappointed by the shutdown.

“We all know that we are only left with a short period of time to start with our final examinations. We plead with the government and parents to find common ground so we can prepare and write write our examinations,” he said.
Limpopo Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, said the police are monitoring the area and no arrests have been made for damage to property where two vehicles were damaged.
Businesses have also been shut in the area and left hawkers and their families hungry.
Humbulani Mudau, a hawker who sells sweets at a nearby primary school to support her five children, has been left stranded.
“I sell sweets and snacks at school and with this I’m able to support my family, but since there has been a total shutdown, I can’t put food on the table,” she said.
Mudau collects R50 per day at school in order to support her family.
A municipality council of Lim 345 have taken a resolution not to support Vuwani people receiving services in Vhembe District Municipality stating it is a violation of Municipal Acts and the Municipal Demarcation Board Acts.
The Malamulele-Vuwani Hlanganani Task Team has also announced that the provincial government, the Inter-Ministrial Task Team and Limpopo ANC Provincial Executive Committee is set to meet to discuss the issue of Vuwani.
