Keeping sister’s memory alive through passion for jewellery

Magdeline Rashidi is a jewellery designer from Madiba Park, who says she keeps designing and making jewellery as it reminds her of her late sister.

POLOKWANE – “I started off doing beadwork jewellery with my sister some years back. Unfortunately, God decided He wanted her to join Him in heaven and took her. My sister and I had big dreams and ideas of one day starting a company which specialises in jewellery designing and manufacturing as well as clothing designs.

My sister loved making and wearing jewellery so after her death I decided to keep her memory alive through designing and making jewellery,” she explained.

Rashidi said she has had to persevere and have faith that her business will stand firm and that her sister’s legacy will live on. Challenges such as a lack of proper machinery continues to be one of her biggest obstacles, especially when she receives big orders. This hasn’t discouraged her, however, as she worked longer hours to meet the deadlines and satisfy her clients’ needs.

Aside from being an entrepreneur, Rashidi is also a wife and the mother of a six-year-old boy with big dreams. She plans to expand her business in various ways such as offering furniture customisations and one day opening an arts, crafts and furniture store where she uses solely material that has been thrown away such as worn tyres, crates and wood among other discarded items.
